What is Norwegian Spruce Extract - liquid? Solid? Bark?

Norwegian Spruce Extract is Picea Abies Extract which is liquid extracted and filtered from the branch knots of the Norwegian Spruce common in the Arctic and Scandinavia.

How is it extracted?

The patented extraction process involves serial discarding of unwanted wood matter, then purifying and filtering the pure sap.

What is in Norwegian Spruce Extract that is beneficial as a supplement

This sap is critical for the prevention of oxidative rot for vulnerable new and old growth of branches and trunks.  Spruce sap provides immunities due to its polyphenol or lignan content, similar to the ones found in nuts and grains.

What is a lignan?

A lignan is a type of polyphenolic compound that occurs naturally in some plants. Sources that are particularly rich in lignans phytochemicals (in order of highest to lowest concentration) are flax, sesame, sunflower, and pumpkin seeds. However, lignan compounds are also found in many vegetables, fruits, and botanical-derived beverages, such as tea and wine. Since there is more than one type of lignan compound, they are collectively referred to as lignans.

Are there different types of lignans in Norwegian Spruce extract?

It has been studied that there are seven main types or polyphenols or lignans in this sap. At relatively high concentrations due to evolutionary requirements relative to the Norwegian Spruce environment ensuring large quantities of sap per tree due to its large size.

What function / benefits to lignans provide to health

Since humans are also vulnerable to charged oxygen exposure, in us the result of incomplete oxygen metabolism during respiration and subsequent undesired reactions producing tissue damaging peroxides, we require help from foods to help mop up free oxygen to prevent damage and reactive inflammation responses by eating high polyphenol type foods such as grains and nuts

How was Norwegian Spruce Extract discovered?

It was noticed that spruce trees especially in Scandinavia, branches, stumps, did not rot or decay.  Sap was taken from trees and analyzed as to reasons for its protective value to the tree.  High concentrations of polyphenols were identified.

These were then specifically extracted to find clinical value for human consumption as sap containing lignans multiple times the concentrations found in typical diets.

Does Nordic Sunn contain any other ingredients?  If yes what and why?

In order for the sap, after extraction and purification, to have a form safe for human use, in an optimal concentration of actives, a liquid vehicle was needed to be added which is a food and pharmaceutical grade Trimethylene glycol or 1,3-Propanediol, derived from corn, all gluten free.

What other plants or extracts contain lignans?

Polyphenols or lignans in Picea Abies Extract, are also found in Flax seeds, rye, wheat, oats, buckwheat, barley, cashews, almonds, millet, Quinoa, walnuts.

How much Nordic Sunn should I take per day?

All supplements should be taken as directed.   A beneficial dose of Nordic Sunn is 5-15 drops per day, depending on your body weight.  For example, if your body weight is 100kg, you should take 15 drops per day for the optimal lignan supplement dosage.

Are there any potential side effects?

When doing so, there are no side-effects, as this is not as drug.

Can I take Nordic Sunn if I am taking other supplements / medications?

Please consult with your Physician should there be concerns as to this combination with drugs.

Yes, Nordic Sunn Norwegian Spruce extract is 100% natural, organic and sustainably sourced.

What is the shelf life / expiration?

Nordic Sunn is very stable as is and as packaged.  Label expiry dates are listed on the bottle labels.

What is an antioxidant?

An antioxidant is a compound that helps neutralize reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are unstable molecules produced during normal energy production. When these molecules build up, they create oxidative stress that can damage cells. Antioxidants help maintain balance by protecting cellular structures while still allowing normal signaling processes to occur.

How does the spruce tincture support energy production in the body?

The spruce tincture supports energy indirectly by helping maintain oxidative balance within cells. This protects the mitochondria, which are responsible for producing usable energy. When oxidative stress is managed, energy production becomes more efficient and less wasteful.

How does the spruce tincture support inflammation in the body?

Chronic inflammation is often linked to oxidative stress. The spruce tincture helps regulate oxidative processes, which in turn supports a more balanced inflammatory response. This helps the body stay within a functional range rather than tipping into excess inflammation.

How does the spruce tincture support cardiovascular health over time?

Oxidative stress plays a role in damaging blood vessels and contributing to plaque formation. The spruce tincture helps support antioxidant defenses that protect these systems. Over time, this supports healthier vascular function.

How does the spruce tincture support gut health and digestion?

The spruce tincture interacts with the gut by supporting antioxidant balance and influencing the microbial environment. It helps protect the gut lining and supports a more stable internal environment. Its effectiveness is also connected to the health of the gut microbiome.

Does the spruce tincture increase energy or improve how the body uses energy?

The spruce tincture does not directly create energy, but it helps the body use energy more efficiently. By supporting antioxidant systems, it protects the processes that convert food into ATP. This can result in more stable and sustained energy over time.

How does the spruce tincture help reduce fatigue over time?

Fatigue is often linked to inefficient energy production and cellular stress.

The spruce tincture works at the cellular level by helping regulate oxidative stress and protect key structures like mitochondria. This supports energy production, repair processes, and cellular communication. Because all systems rely on cells, this has wide-reaching effects throughout the body.

Over time, this can support more consistent energy levels and reduce fatigue.

Could oxidative stress be one of the hidden reasons people feel chronically tired?

Yes, oxidative stress can reduce how efficiently your cells produce energy. When mitochondria are under stress, more energy is lost during production and less usable energy is created. This can lead to fatigue, even when diet and sleep are consistent. Supporting oxidative balance helps improve energy efficiency at the cellular level.

How does the spruce tincture support recovery after physical activity?

After exercise, the body produces reactive oxygen species that can slow recovery if not balanced. The spruce tincture helps regulate this oxidative stress, allowing repair processes to function more efficiently. This can support faster recovery and reduced strain on the body.

Why is balance more important than strength when it comes to antioxidants?

Antioxidants are most effective when they support balance, not when they completely suppress oxidative activity. Too little antioxidant support allows damage to accumulate, while too much can interfere with important cellular signaling. The goal is to maintain a state where the body can protect itself while still adapting and functioning normally.

How does oxidative stress impact inflammation in the body?

Oxidative stress and inflammation are closely connected and often reinforce each other. When oxidative stress is elevated, it can trigger inflammatory responses and damage tissues over time. Managing oxidative stress helps keep inflammation within a more stable and functional range.

How does the spruce tincture support metabolic efficiency?

Metabolic efficiency refers to how well the body converts fuel into usable energy. The spruce tincture helps maintain healthier mitochondrial function and reduces excess oxidative stress during energy production. This allows the body to extract more energy from the same inputs with less strain.

Most antioxidants and mitochondrial-support compounds help protect mitochondria and improve their function, while also supporting mitochondrial turnover.

Mitochondria are responsible for producing energy in every cell, so their efficiency impacts the entire body. When they function well, cells produce more energy with less stress and fewer damaging byproducts. This supports everything from physical performance to cognitive function and recovery.

How does the spruce tincture support skin health from within?

The spruce tincture works systemically by helping regulate oxidative stress and inflammation, both of which impact skin quality. This supports collagen integrity, even tone, and overall skin function. The effect is gradual and reflects internal balance rather than surface-level change.

How does the spruce tincture support collagen over time?

Collagen is sensitive to oxidative stress, which can accelerate its breakdown. The spruce tincture helps protect against this damage by supporting antioxidant pathways. This can help maintain skin structure and elasticity over time.

How does the spruce tincture support hormone balance during menopause?

The spruce tincture contains lignans that act as mild phytoestrogens, meaning they can interact with estrogen receptors in a subtle way. This can help support balance when natural estrogen levels decline. It works as a regulator rather than increasing hormone levels directly

Why do spruce trees produce compounds like lignans?

Spruce trees grow in harsh environments with cold temperatures, high UV exposure, and limited nutrients. To survive, they produce protective compounds that help reduce internal stress and maintain cellular stability. Lignans are part of this natural defense system.

Does the resilience of spruce trees relate to the benefits of the tincture?

Spruce trees can live for hundreds of years in harsh conditions, which reflects the strength of their internal protective systems and their ability to manage environmental stress over long periods.

Their chemistry is designed to protect against damage and maintain structural integrity. This is why their compounds are studied for their role in cellular protection.
